What Pressure Can Look Like
When It Doesn't Feel Like a Choice
Sometimes pressure comes from another person. Other times, circumstances like money, housing, school, work, or relationships can make it seem as though you have no real choice.
Your voice matters. Your wishes matter. No one should force, threaten, manipulate, or frighten you into a decision.
You deserve the time to consider what you truly want—not simply what someone else wants or what feels like your only option right now.
When Someone Is Telling You What to Do
Direct pressure is often easier to recognize. It may include:
Being told you must have an abortion or must not have an abortion
Being threatened with the loss of a relationship, housing, transportation, childcare, or financial support
Being told you will be kicked out of your home if you continue the pregnancy
Being pressured to decide before you feel ready
Having someone schedule appointments, order abortion pills, or make arrangements for you without your consent
Threats of physical harm toward you, your child, or someone you love
Being prevented from seeking medical care or information about your options
When the Influence Is Harder to See
Pressure is not always obvious, especially when it comes from someone you care about or depend on.
It may include:
Being told repeatedly that there is only one reasonable choice
Being made to feel guilty for considering something different
Having your fears used against you
Being made to feel selfish, irresponsible, or incapable
Having your questions dismissed or ignored
Being told your future will be ruined if you continue the pregnancy
Feeling rushed to decide without enough information or time to think
Hearing the same message repeatedly until you feel worn down or defeated
When Your Circumstances Feel Like They’re Deciding for You
Sometimes no one is pressuring you. It is simply the weight of everything you are carrying.
Money, housing, school, work, childcare, relationships, family reactions, transportation, or medical concerns can make a situation seem impossible. Those concerns are real and deserve to be taken seriously.
But what feels impossible right now may not always be impossible.
What worries you most?
What could change?
Is there assistance or another possibility you haven't had the chance to explore?
Others may look very different with the right resources and practical help.
You deserve the chance to find out what is possible before circumstances make the decision for you.
